ID Protection, at times also referred to as Privacy or WHOIS Protection, is a service that hides the actual contact information of domain registrants on WHOIS web sites. Without such protection, the personal name, address and email account of any domain registrant will be freely visible. Giving fake info during the registration process or altering the real information subsequently will just not work, as doing such a thing may result in the registrant losing their ownership of the domain name. The policies approved by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), demand that the WHOIS info must be correct and accurate all the time. The ID Protection service was launched by registrars as a response to the rising concerns about possible identity fraud. If the service is enabled, the domain name registrar’s contact info will appear instead of the domain name registrant’s upon a WHOIS check. Most domain names support the ID Protection service, even though there are some country-code extensions that don’t.

ID Protection in Cloud Website Hosting

If you’ve ordered a cloud website hosting plan from us and you’ve registered one or more domain names under your account, you will be able to activate ID Protection for any of them without any effort and to keep your private details safe. Of course, this will be possible only with the TLD extensions that support such an option. In your Hepsia Control Panel, you will find an “ID Protect” sign next to each of your domain names. Its colour will show you if a domain is protected or not and in the second case, you can add ID Protection with only a couple of clicks of the mouse. In this way, you can protect your personal details even if you haven’t activated the ID Protection service during the hosting account order process. You will be able to renew or to disable the ID Protection service for any of your domains just as easily.

ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

Activating ID Protection for any domain is very easy in case you have a semi-dedicated server. As long as the domain name is registered through our company, it will be listed in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel that comes with every semi-dedicated plan. In case a given generic or country-code Top-Level Domain supports ID Protection, you will notice a mini symbol on the right-hand side of that domain. To enable the service, you will have to click on it. In the very same manner, you can also renew or deactivate the service. You can activate ID Protection for a domain name during the account order procedure as well, but since the ID Protection service is optional, we’ll offer you the chance to add it to any of your domains at a later point in time in case you change your mind and opt to hide your private details from the general public after you’ve already created the semi-dedicated account.
